What a GCSE Science Tutor Does

GCSE Science is three subjects in one. Even if you’re on the Combined Science route, you’re still working through Biology, Chemistry and Physics content — plus the required practicals and data-handling questions that sit across all three. A good tutor treats that like what it is: a workload. They’ll split it into pieces you can handle week by week, rather than dropping a 300-page revision guide on your desk and wishing you luck.

Most students come to us stuck on a specific part of the course. Rates of reaction won’t stick. Enzymes make no sense. Waves are a blind spot. You don’t need a full rewrite of the syllabus — you need someone who can diagnose the gap, explain it in a way that lands, and then set the right practice questions. That’s the job, and a strong science and maths tutor can shortcut the equations side of Physics and Chemistry too.

Our tutors cover GCSE Science in full — Combined and Triple — and can weight sessions towards Biology, Chemistry or Physics as you need. Sessions run online, so you can work with a tutor anywhere in the UK without the travel, and you keep the same one week after week. When you’re ready to see who’s available, the tutor directory shows profiles, subjects, levels and hourly rates on each tutor profile, so you can compare openly before messaging anyone.

  • Tutors who cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics at GCSE — Combined or Triple.
  • How to turn weak topics into reliable marks, instead of vague "more revision".
  • Browse profiles and rates before you message anyone — no sign-up needed.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions people ask most often.

Do I need a separate tutor for each science at GCSE?

Not usually. All of our GCSE science tutors cover all three subjects for Combined Science. If you only need a GCSE biology tutor, or want to focus on grade 9 Physics, filter the tutor directory for that specialism and pick a tutor whose profile lists the subject and level you’re after.

How much does a GCSE science tutor cost in the UK?

Rates usually sit between about £25 and £50 per hour, depending on the tutor’s experience and whether sessions are online or in person. Every profile in our directory shows an hourly rate, so you can compare openly before enquiring. Also, it’s worth noting an online science tutor is often a touch cheaper than in-person one!

Should I start GCSE science tutoring in Year 10 or Year 11?

Either works, but earlier is better if you’re aiming for grades 7-9. Year 10 gives you room to fix foundations — equations in Physics, moles in Chemistry, cell biology in, well, Biology — before Year 11 exam pressure lands. If you’re already in Year 11, focus each session on past papers and your weakest topics, not on re-reading the whole textbook.
