Assess–Plan–Do–Review: the quick answer
In England, Assess–Plan–Do–Review (APDR) is the repeating four-part cycle schools use within the graduated approach to SEN Support. It is not a one-off form, and it is not the name of a single intervention.
The school assesses the pupil’s strengths, needs and barriers; plans the intended outcomes and support with the pupil and parent; puts that support into practice; then reviews both how well it was delivered and what difference it made. The evidence should shape the next cycle. When support is not working, the answer should not be to copy the same plan and add a new date: the assessment, outcome, provision, delivery or level of expertise should change.
“a four-part cycle through which earlier decisions and actions are revisited, refined and revised” — GOV.UK SEND Code of Practice
