KS3 Religious Education: the quick answer
In England, KS3 Religious Education normally covers Years 7 to 9, when pupils are aged 11 to 14. State-funded schools must provide RE at every key stage, but RE is not one of the subjects with a single National Curriculum programme of study. That is why the subject name, topics, sequence and timetable can differ between schools.
The Department for Education states that schools “must teach religious education to pupils at every key stage”. Parents can request withdrawal from all or a specified part of RE in England. RE is separate from collective worship, so the two should not be treated as the same lesson or the same withdrawal decision.
