Physics support depends on the exact level and specification
Physics is not one uniform UK syllabus. Topic depth, paper structure, tiers, practical requirements and terminology differ between stages, awarding bodies and education systems. Before enquiring, identify the learner’s exact qualification and specification; a tutor who is a good fit for one qualification may not cover another in the same way.
- KS3 in England
- Energy, forces and motion, pressure, waves, light, electricity, magnetism, particles, thermal energy and space are among the statutory science areas. Other UK systems should be identified separately.
- GCSE Physics
- AQA and OCR both cover core Physics but organise topics differently. AQA offers Foundation and Higher tiers and two 1-hour-45-minute papers; use the learner’s actual board rather than a generic GCSE description.
- A-Level Physics
- AQA includes measurements, particles, waves, mechanics, electricity, thermal physics, fields, nuclear physics and an option topic across three two-hour papers. Other boards differ.
- International GCSE
- Pearson International GCSE Physics is a distinct qualification. Its newer modular qualification is available only to schools outside the UK, so ask for the exact specification.
- Wales
- WJEC says separate GCSE Physics remains available to summer 2031, with an updated Unit 3 practical assessment for teaching from September 2026.
- Scotland, Northern Ireland, IB and other qualifications
- Confirm the exact qualification, awarding body and tutor coverage rather than translating the course into an English GCSE or A-Level label.
