Hilary Stanton

Hilary is a committed and empathetic career teacher with over 35 years experience of teaching. Her teaching style is flexible and she is friendly and approachable. As a teacher in secondary, further and higher education, she has helped many students achieve their dream grades in GCSE, A-Level and University examinations. She is a passionate lifelong learner with a love of language and literature. She is fluent in German and French to near-native level (C2), with Spanish at advanced (B2) level. Hilary is a cat lover, and enjoys theatre, cinema and walking.

Hilary Stanton is a qualified English and modern foreign languages teacher in the United Kingdom, offering supportive, high-quality tuition at £35.00 per hour. She holds a PGCE with QTS in English Language Teaching, an MEd in Applied Linguistics (Open University), an ML in Comparative Literature (University of East Anglia), and a BA in German and English Literature (Durham University). She is also C2 DALF certified in French and B2 DELE certified in Spanish.

With over 35 years’ experience across UK secondary schools, further education and higher education, Hilary brings a calm, empathetic approach and a flexible teaching style that adapts to each student. She has extensive experience as an examiner for UK exam boards, giving her a strong understanding of exam technique and practical strategies for performing well in assessed work and examinations.

As an English tutor, Hilary teaches English Language (Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level) and English Literature (Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level). She also supports English as a foreign language, including International Baccalaureate and university-level study (Bachelor’s and Master’s). For languages, she offers French and German at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level, and Spanish at Key Stage 3 and GCSE, drawing on her advanced, real-world fluency.
