Leon Eric Avrutin

Leon comes from a Languages background and is now doing a Law conversion, with the aim of breaking into that field. He is a lifelong language learner and humanities aficionado and wants to help others find the same joy in what they do.

He studied Russian, Linguistics and History at the University of Padua in Italy, so studying foreign languages in a foreign language (Italian), a sink-or-swim situation which he credits for his tenacious and lively teaching style. He has been in many hard situations and knows from experience how to deal with of them, and more importantly how to avoid them in the first place, fulfilling potential you didn't know you had and keeping mental blocks out of the equation.

Branching out into tutoring Humanities, Arts and more with Latimer was therefore a natural progression for Leon, who specialises in transferable skills, versatility and communication.

Leon Eric Avrutin is a UK-based private tutor specialising in English, modern foreign languages, and Humanities. He supports learners across Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and GCSE, and also offers AS Level and A Level support in selected subjects, including History and Italian. He can also help with 11+ (general), Verbal Reasoning, and Personal Statement guidance.

Leon holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Law and a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures from the University of Padua (Italy). His academic background includes studying Russian, Linguistics and History, and he brings that languages-first perspective into every lesson—particularly for students who want clearer explanations, stronger communication skills, and a more confident approach to learning.

As an English tutor (including GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature) and an English as a Foreign Language tutor, Leon focuses on building transferable skills and removing “mental blocks” that can hold students back. Alongside English, he offers language tuition in French, Italian and Russian, and Humanities support as a Geography tutor and History tutor. He also tutors Mathematics at Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.

Leon has experience teaching one-to-one and small groups, online tutoring and in-person sessions, and has worked in classroom settings supporting individual pupils who are struggling with their courses. Lessons are £35 per hour, with lesson reports provided after each session, and homework can be arranged free of charge.
