Alexander Olsen

Alexander initially harboured ambitions of becoming a teacher, but instead followed in his family’s footsteps and went to sea as a merchant deck officer. After spending six years sailing on container ships and car carriers, he "retired" his stripes and came ashore. Following his studies in political science at university, he began a second career as a training specialist with the Royal Navy, combining his passion for learning with his love for the sea.

Since coming ashore, Alexander has enjoyed success as a highly experienced and qualified teaching professional, with over ten years spent tutoring students in Business Studies, Politics, and International Relations at GCSE, A Level, and University levels. He specialises in Political Science (AQA and Edexcel), Business Studies (OCR, AQA, and Edexcel), and the humanities (AQA, OCR, and Edexcel). He has also tutored students in Law, Sociology, and History across GCSE and A Level curricula. On average, his students improve by two grades from when they started working with him.

Alexander is passionate about tutoring and supporting students to achieve their potential, especially in the post-COVID era.

Academically, Alexander holds an MSc in Education Studies, a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Education, and a BSc in Humanities from the Open University, alongside an MA in Political Science and International Relations from King’s College, University of Aberdeen. Alongside tutoring, he is currently employed as a Training Needs Analyst for a FTSE 100 global engineering corporation, bringing a structured, skills-focused approach to every lesson.

As a Business Studies tutor and politics tutor, Alexander specialises in Political Science (AQA and Edexcel) and Business Studies (OCR, AQA, and Edexcel). He also teaches wider humanities subjects (AQA, OCR, and Edexcel) and has supported students in Law, Sociology, History, Geography, English Language, and English Literature, including Key Stage 3 and adult learners where appropriate.
