Drew Duffield

Drew is an enthusiastic mathematician with a strong passion for educating and inspiring others about the subject area. As well as being a tutor of mathematics, he has maintained an active research career at a number of UK universities, such as Loughborough University, Durham University and The University of Hertfordshire, where he pursued cutting-edge research in an area of mathematics called representation theory. Representation theory is the study of symmetry and its expression/representation via vectors and matrices, and has diverse applications from solving problems in abstract algebra to understanding the mathematics of particle physics.

Drew has published several research articles in representation theory, and has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international conferences on the subject area. Outside of mathematics, Drew is also an amateur artist, with a focus on acrylic landscape paintings.

Drew Duffield is a Mathematics Specialist based in Durham, United Kingdom, offering maths tuition at £35 per hour. He holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Leicester and a first-class (with honours) Master of Mathematics degree from the University of York. Drew has over 10 years’ experience working within mathematical institutions across the UK, including mathematics departments at Loughborough University, Durham University and the University of Hertfordshire.

He works as a GCSE maths tutor and A level maths tutor in Mathematics, and he also supports Further Maths as a further maths tutor. He teaches across Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level, and he can also act as a university maths tutor for BSc Mathematics and for Master’s/MSc Pure Maths. During his PhD he worked as a Teaching Assistant in Mathematics at the University of Leicester, and his own academic background includes A grades at A Level in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Computing. Drew also studied GCSE Mathematics independently at the age of 13 via the National Extension College and took the exam in 2015, two years ahead of his peers.

Alongside tutoring, Drew maintains an active research profile in representation theory (the study of symmetry and its expression via vectors and matrices), with several published articles and experience as an invited speaker at national and international conferences. Students can expect a lesson report after each session, and homework can be arranged free of charge. Outside of mathematics, he is an amateur artist with a focus on acrylic landscape paintings.
