Biography
Barney is an experienced and qualified Maths teacher and tutor with five years of experience supporting students of all ages and abilities. He has taught Maths in secondary schools and has three years of tutoring experience, working with learners from primary level through to GCSE.
Barney's approach is centred around making Maths feel achievable, engaging and rewarding. He takes the time to understand how each student learns best, identify any gaps in their knowledge, and build their confidence step by step. He believes that students make the best progress when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves.
In his lessons, Barney uses a clear and structured approach, combining retrieval practice, teacher modelling, guided examples and independent practice. He adapts every lesson to the individual student, whether they need support with the fundamentals, help preparing for exams, or additional challenge to reach their full potential.
Barney has experience supporting students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs, and aims to create a calm, positive and encouraging environment in every session. His goal is not only to improve grades, but also to help students develop the confidence, resilience and problem-solving skills they need to become independent mathematicians.
