The words “tutoring company” do not tell you what is being sold. Begin with the lesson format and the work included, then compare the practical commitment. The questions below form a comparison sheet you can use with actual quotes; they do not describe a group or membership offer from Latimer.

Teaching and individual attention
Record whether the offer is live one-to-one teaching, a group session, independent resources or a mixture. For a group, ask how many learners share the session and how individual questions are handled.
Time and feedback included
Write down session length, number of sessions and any preparation, marking or feedback included. Ask what happens between sessions and whether you will keep the same tutor.
Total commitment
Compare the cost over the same period, adding agreed extras. Check payment timing, cancellation, missed-session and stopping terms before deciding that one headline price is lower.

Compare teaching format separately from location

Check both how many learners share a session and where it takes place. For school pupils, EEF’s review of small-group tuition finds mixed results in comparisons with one-to-one teaching: group size alone does not settle which approach will suit a child.

One-to-one lessons
Ask how the tutor will choose priorities and change the pace when the learner needs more explanation or is ready to move on.
Group or centre provision
Check group size, whether learners work on the same material, and how an individual receives help when they get stuck. Ask what practice or feedback is included.

If another provider offers a monthly membership, ask what you can actually use during that month and what happens to missed sessions. Read the notice and cancellation terms even when an offer is described as flexible. A lower headline price is only useful if the teaching and commitment fit your needs.

Compare the work you want help with. Ask what the company does for tutor choice, payments and concerns, and what you will arrange yourself. Then assess the individual tutor’s approach. The company’s role should be clear enough for you to decide whether its service is useful.

Can I arrange in-person lessons through Latimer?

Latimer is online-first. In-person tuition needs a separate agreement with a suitably located tutor, so confirm that arrangement before choosing on the basis of location. If travel or physical presence is essential, include it in your first enquiry.

How often should I book lessons?
